ASIC permanently bans Patrick Nong from financial services
ASIC has permanently banned Melbourne-based financial adviser Mr Patrick Nong from providing financial services, performing any function involved in carrying on a financial services business, or controlling an entity that carries on a financial services business.
ASIC’s action relates to conduct between October 2023 and September 2024, when Nong, while employed by 360 Financial Strategists Pty Ltd, and authorised through AMP Financial Planning Pty Ltd (now Akumin Financial Planning Pty Ltd), signed documents on behalf of four clients without their consent. He used recorded “meeting” systems to generate the false consents and submitted them for processing, resulting in fees being deducted from the clients’ super accounts despite no meetings or client signatures having occurred.
ASIC concluded that Nong’s conduct was motivated by personal benefit tied to maintaining his employment and amounted to a gross breach of trust. As such ASIC found that Patrick Nong is not a fit and proper person to participate in the financial services industry, and is lacking the honesty, character, trustworthiness and integrity required of a financial adviser.
As a result of this finding Mr Patrick Nong’s employment with 360 Financial Strategists has been terminated, and AMPFP (now Akumin Financial Planning) has revoked his authorisation.
Mr Patrick Nong’s banning order has been recorded on ASIC’s Banned and Disqualified Register.
